Since 2017 is Consultant at Maxillofacial Surgery Unit, Istituto Stomatologico Italiano, Milano, Italy. In the 80’s and 90’s he was assistant clinical professor at the Unit of Maxillo-Facial Surgery, Hospital of Vicenza,Italy. From 1996 to 2016 Prof. Clauser was the Head and Director of the Unit of Cranio-Maxillo-Facial Surgery of the University Hospital of Ferrara, Italy.
Education: University of Padua (Padova, Italy) School of Medicine (MD) and School of Dentistry (DMD). Maxillofacial Surgery: University of Verona, Italy. Expertise includes facial reconstructions, implantology, orthognathic surgery to correct various types of malocclusion, traumatology, orbital surgery, oral surgery- odontostomatology, treatment of temporo-mandibular joint dysfunctions and facial plastic surgery. Internationally acknowledged as a leading expert in this field and a prominent specialist in the treatment of congenital craniofacial malformations, distraction osteogenesis and multidisciplinary treatment of exophthalmos in Graves-Basedow disease.
The reconstruction of facial volumes into maxillofacial surgery through the use of autologous fat transfer and the related tissue engineering research, are among his main interests. Various mentors, in both Europe and the United States, have also contributed to his education. He has performed more than 5000 operations of cranio-orbito maxillo facial pathologies for the correction of various types of acquired and congenital osseous and soft tissue deformities. Prof. Clauser ,as an International Craniofacial Fellow, was the last pupil of Dr. Paul Tessier, plastic-craniofacial surgeon in Paris. In the mid 90’s he was part of a humanitarian mission in Tehran, Iran, together with Paul Tessier to cure patients wounded in the Iran-Iraq conflict.
EACMFS President (European Association for Cranio-Maxillo-Facial Surgery) from 2006 to 2008, having been nominated Junior President Elect in 2002 in Muenster, Germany. Responsible for promoting maxillo-facial surgery not only throughout Europe and other continents, but also in Eastern Europe, and in countries with limited resources. Invited speaker at many notable Congresses and scientific events worldwide, and author of over 240 scientific publications and 9 chapters in books.Organization and sponsoring of the world’s largest symposium on Orbital Surgery, ORBIT2011, October 2011-Ferrara, Italy. He is reviewer of The J. of Cranio-Maxillo-Facial Surgery, Section Editor for Orbital and Periorbital Pathology and of other international scientific journals. Member of the European Board of Oro-Maxillofacial Surgery (FEBOMFS).May 2012 delivered the prestigious Honorary Whilelmsem Lecture in Baltimore, USA, in recognition for contributing to the Craniofacial Sciences( Honorary Lecture delivered in the past by only two other Europeans: Paul Tessier, Paris, and Hugo Obwegeser, Zurich). In 2013 he was head of the Unit of Cranio Maxillo Facial Surgery in Ferrara, which was included in the European Association for Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery, International Teaching Centres Network. Organizer of over 80 international scientific events (congresses, seminars, round tables) with speakers and participants from various European and extra European countries. In 2015, organizer of the international symposium Face Restoration in Maxillofacial & Plastic Surgery- FACE2015, Ferrara, November 12-14, in which all the most current issues in face reconstruction techniques were dealt with, focusing particularly on the use of tissue engineering and the indications for facial transplantation.
